Welcome to Get Tutored. These Terms & Conditions explain how our website and tuition services work and what we and you can expect from each other. Please read them carefully before creating an account or booking a lesson.
In short: parents (or students aged 18 and over) create an account, choose a tutor or class and pay through Get Tutored. Tutors are vetted before joining. Give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel a lesson, keep all communication on the platform, and contact us if anything worries you. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
1 About these terms
Get Tutored (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website get-tutored.co.uk and a tuition centre at 118 Colindale Avenue, London NW9 5GX. You can contact us by email at [email protected] or by phone on 020 8205 0067.
By creating an account, booking a lesson or otherwise using our services, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services. Tutors are also bound by a separate tutor agreement; if that agreement conflicts with these terms, the tutor agreement applies to the tutor.
2 Key terms
- Platform — our website, online classroom, messaging and dashboards.
- Parent — a parent, guardian or other adult with parental responsibility who manages a student’s account or bookings.
- Student — the learner who attends lessons.
- Tutor — a tutor approved to offer lessons through Get Tutored.
- Lesson — a single tutoring session, online or in person. A class is a regular weekly lesson slot that a tutor publishes on the platform.
3 Our services
We provide two kinds of tuition:
- Online tuition — live lessons with tutors you choose through the platform, delivered in our online classroom.
- In-person tuition — small-group sessions of 1–4 students at our Colindale centre, described on our in-person tuition page.
We work hard to help every student make progress, but results depend on many things, including the student’s effort, attendance and circumstances. We therefore cannot guarantee particular grades, exam results or school places.
4 Your account
- You must be 18 or over to create a parent or tutor account.
- Students under 18 may only use the platform through, or with the permission of, a parent.
- The information you give us must be accurate and kept up to date.
- Keep your login details private. You are responsible for activity on your account, and you should tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed it.
- Each account is for one person and may not be shared or transferred.
5 Parents and students under 18
If you book lessons for a student under 18, you:
- confirm you have parental responsibility for the student, or the permission of someone who does;
- are responsible for the bookings and payments made for that student;
- should make sure a responsible adult is nearby during online lessons, especially for younger students, and that the student joins from a suitable shared space in the home rather than a bedroom where possible;
- are responsible for the student before and after in-person sessions, including drop-off and collection on time.
6 Tutors
Tutors are independent, self-employed professionals and are not our employees. Before joining, tutors are interviewed and vetted, and tutors with a completed Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check display a “DBS checked” badge on their profile.
Tutors set their own hourly rates and the classes they offer, and are responsible for the content and quality of their lessons. They must follow our safeguarding policy and code of conduct. If you have any concern about a tutor, please contact us straight away.
7 Booking lessons
You can message a tutor about a class or send an enrolment request from the tutor’s profile or schedule. A booking is confirmed when the tutor accepts it and we show it as confirmed in your dashboard. Each class shows its day, time, level, price and the number of places available, and places are limited.
Tutors can occasionally change or withdraw a class. If a confirmed lesson cannot go ahead, we will tell you as soon as we can and offer another time, another tutor or a refund for that lesson.
8 Prices and payment
- Prices are shown in pounds sterling (GBP) and are the total you pay for each lesson, unless stated otherwise.
- The price that applies is the one shown when your booking is confirmed.
- Online lessons are paid through the platform using our third-party payment provider. We do not store your full card details on our own servers.
- In-person tuition is charged as a monthly package, based on weekly 1.5-hour lessons, and is payable in advance at the start of each month.
- If a payment fails or is not made on time, we may pause bookings until it is settled.
9 Cancellations and refunds
If you cancel
- Cancel or reschedule a lesson at least 24 hours before it starts and you will not be charged for it (or will receive a full refund or credit if you have already paid).
- Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, may be charged in full.
- To stop a monthly in-person package, tell us before the start of the next month. Lessons already paid for in the current month can be used until the month ends.
If the tutor or we cancel
If a tutor or Get Tutored cancels a lesson, or a tutor does not attend, you will not be charged for that lesson and we will offer to rearrange it or refund you in full.
Refunds
Refunds are made to the original payment method, normally within 14 days of being agreed. If you are unhappy with a lesson, please tell us within 7 days so we can look into it.
10 Your right to cancel
Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, if you book as a consumer you have 14 days from the date your booking is confirmed to cancel it without giving a reason.
If you ask for lessons to start within those 14 days, you agree that you will pay for any lessons already delivered if you then cancel. To cancel, email [email protected] with your name and booking details.
11 Free sessions and trial lessons
Some tutors offer a free 15-minute introductory session, and your first in-person trial lesson is free. Free sessions are offered at our and the tutor’s discretion, are limited to one per student per tutor (or one in-person trial per student), and do not commit you to booking further lessons.
12 Online lessons
- You need a device with a camera, a microphone and a reliable internet connection. Please join on time and test your set-up first.
- Students should have their camera on and be appropriately dressed, in a suitable setting.
- Do not record, photograph or share lessons without the consent of everyone taking part.
- If a lesson is significantly disrupted by a technical problem on our side, we will offer to rearrange it or refund that lesson.
13 In-person tuition
- Groups are kept to a maximum of four students so every learner gets attention.
- Students must follow reasonable instructions from tutors and centre staff and respect other learners and the premises.
- We may ask a student to leave, or end a place, if their behaviour puts others at risk or repeatedly disrupts learning. We will talk to the parent first wherever we can.
- Please tell us about any medical needs, allergies or additional learning needs before the first session.
14 Safeguarding and conduct
Safeguarding children is our highest priority. Everyone using Get Tutored must:
- treat others with respect and never use abusive, discriminatory or inappropriate language or behaviour;
- keep messages and lessons on the platform, and not exchange personal contact details or social media accounts with students;
- not share content that is unlawful, harmful or unrelated to tuition;
- not try to access other people’s accounts or interfere with the platform’s security.
If you are worried about a child’s safety, contact us immediately on 020 8205 0067. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
15 Booking through Get Tutored
Booking and paying through Get Tutored keeps lessons covered by our safeguarding, support and payment protection. While you or the tutor have an active account, you agree to book and pay for lessons with tutors you found through Get Tutored via the platform, rather than arranging them privately.
16 Reviews and content
Reviews must be honest, based on real lessons, and must not include personal information, offensive language or false statements. We may moderate or remove reviews and other content that breaks these terms.
By posting content on the platform, you give us permission to display it on the platform for as long as it remains there. You remain the owner of your content.
17 Intellectual property
The Get Tutored name, logo, website design and our own materials belong to us or our licensors. Tutors own the teaching materials they create. You may use lesson materials for the student’s own learning, but not copy, sell or publish them without permission.
18 Our responsibility to you
We provide our services with reasonable care and skill. If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that failure.
We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, for business losses, or for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
19 Suspending or closing accounts
You can close your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or close an account if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken, if payments are not made, or where we need to do so to protect a student or other users. Where appropriate we will explain why and refund any lessons paid for but not delivered.
20 Your privacy
We handle personal information in line with UK data protection law. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have.
21 Complaints
If something has gone wrong, please tell us at [email protected]. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 2 working days and to resolve them within 14 days, and we will keep you updated if it takes longer.
22 Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes to our services or the law. We will change the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, let account holders know in advance. Bookings already confirmed are covered by the terms that applied when they were made.
23 Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
