Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 September 2026

At Get Tutored, protecting the privacy of the families, students and tutors who use our platform is central to how we work. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the rights you have under UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Please read this policy alongside our Terms of Service. By creating an account or using our services, you confirm that you have read and understood how we handle your information as described here.

1. Who We Are

Get Tutored is a UK-based tutoring platform that connects students and parents with qualified, DBS-checked tutors for one-to-one and small-group tuition, both online and in person in Colindale, London. For the purposes of data protection law, Get Tutored is the “data controller” responsible for your personal information.

You can reach us at 118 Colindale Avenue, Colindale, London NW9 5GX, by phone on 020 8205 0067, or by email at [email protected].

2. Information We Collect

We only collect the information we need to provide safe, effective tuition. Depending on whether you are a parent, student or tutor, this may include:

  • Account and registration details — name, email address, telephone number, password, user type (parent, student or tutor) and, where relevant, the year group, subjects and exam goals of the student.
  • Tutor profile and vetting information — for tutors, we also collect qualifications, experience, subject specialisms, references, right-to-work information and the outcome of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and safeguarding checks.
  • Booking and lesson information — the lessons you request, schedule or attend, attendance, progress notes and feedback shared between tutors, students and parents.
  • Messages and communications — messages sent through our on-platform messaging, and any correspondence you send to our support team.
  • Online lesson data — online lessons are delivered through a secure third-party video service. This may involve processing audio, video and any interactive whiteboard content shared during a session.
  • Payment information — where you make or receive payments, these are handled by our third-party payment providers. We do not store your full card details on our own servers.
  • Technical and usage data — information about the device and browser you use, IP address, and how you interact with our website, collected to keep the platform secure and working well.

3. How We Collect Your Information

We obtain personal information in the following ways:

  • Directly from you — when you register, build a profile, book or deliver lessons, send messages or contact us.
  • From a parent or guardian — where a student is under 18, a parent or guardian usually provides and manages the student’s information.
  • Automatically — through cookies and similar technologies when you use our website (see section 8).
  • From third parties — such as DBS check providers and referees during tutor vetting, and payment providers confirming a transaction.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information to:

  1. Create and manage your account and tutor or student profile;
  2. Match students with suitable tutors and arrange lessons;
  3. Deliver, schedule and support online and in-person tuition;
  4. Enable messaging and share progress and feedback with parents;
  5. Process payments and, for tutors, arrange payment for lessons;
  6. Carry out safeguarding and vetting checks and keep our community safe;
  7. Send you service messages about bookings, changes and important updates;
  8. Respond to your questions, resolve issues and improve our services;
  9. Meet our legal, regulatory and safeguarding obligations.

We will only send you marketing messages where you have chosen to receive them, and you can opt out at any time.

5. Our Lawful Bases for Processing

Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following lawful bases to process your information:

  • Contract — to provide the tutoring services you have signed up for.
  • Legal obligation — to meet safeguarding, accounting and other legal requirements.
  • Legitimate interests — to run, secure and improve our platform, provided your rights do not override those interests.
  • Consent — for optional marketing and certain cookies. Where our processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

6. Children's Privacy & Safeguarding

Many of our students are children, and their safety is our highest priority. Accounts for students under the age of 18 should be set up and overseen by a parent or guardian, who is responsible for consenting to the student’s use of the service.

Every tutor working through Get Tutored is DBS-checked, and we apply safeguarding policies and professional boundaries to protect young learners. We limit access to a student’s information to the people who genuinely need it to deliver tuition, and we may process or disclose information where necessary to protect a child’s welfare.

7. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where needed to deliver our services or meet our obligations, including with:

  • Tutors, students and parents — the relevant details needed to arrange and deliver lessons.
  • Trusted service providers — such as our hosting, video-lesson, payment and communication providers, who act on our instructions.
  • Safeguarding and legal authorities — where we are required or permitted to do so by law, or to protect a child or another person.

8. Cookies & Analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, keep the platform secure and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, although some features of the site may not work properly without them.

9. How Long We Keep Data

We keep your personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including for the life of your account and any period required to meet legal, financial or safeguarding obligations. When information is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymise it.

10. How We Protect Your Data

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including access controls, secure hosting and encryption in transit. No online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we work hard to safeguard your data and to respond quickly if a problem arises.

11. International Transfers

Some of our service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure your information receives a level of protection consistent with UK data protection law, such as using approved safeguards and contractual protections.

12. Your Rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • Ask us to delete your information in certain circumstances;
  • Object to or ask us to restrict certain processing;
  • Request a copy of certain data in a portable format;
  • Withdraw consent where we rely on it.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 14. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk, although we would appreciate the chance to resolve your concern first.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services or the law. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where the changes are significant, take reasonable steps to let you know.
